Elastic No-No Band: News

Fustercluck!!! gets a B+ - May 6, 2010

Fustercluck!!! just got reviewed on the Jezebel Music website by Lee Ann Fullington.

We got a B+. (A passing grade!)

Check it out: http://www.jezebelmusic.com/10021/elastic-no-no-band-fustercluck/

Recession Specials - March 11, 2010

Life is tough. You're on food stamps. Your roommates are on food stamps. Your girlfriend/boyfriend and their respective roommates are all on food stamps. All your money goes to American Spirits and PBR sixers. How can I expect you to waste your dough on something as frivolous as music -- which everyone knows is free now anyway?

Well, I'm tough, but I'm fair, so I'll tell you what. How 'bout I give you a discount?

If you go to iTunes now, and purchase our first album The Very Best of Elastic No-No Band So Far or our early B-sides collection No-No's (Leftovers and Live Songs), you'll only have to pay $5.99 instead of the regular $9.99. Sound good?

Even better, if you were eyeballing either of our only-available-by-download EPs, The Meow Bits or Every Elvis Has His Impersonators: 7 Homemade Remade Elvis Costello Songs, the price has dropped on both of them to $3.99.

Of course, these prices only apply if you purchase the full albums or EPs. The tracks alone are still the regular 99 cents (although I'm working to try to get the track prices dropped to 69 cents for The Very Best and No-No's -- I guess it takes longer to adjust track prices than album prices).

Also, if you already have all the old stuff, I've posted some new free mp3s (with accompanying music videos) from our new album Fustercluck!!! for you to enjoy:

Elvis ready, Manboobs scrapped - December 17, 2008

Every Elvis Has His Impersonators: 7 Homemade Remade Elvis Costello Song is now available for download from iTunes, Amazon.com and CD Baby.

And work on our next album Fustercluck!!! is going so well that I think the album might be done this summer. For that reason, I've decided to scrap plans for the Manboobs EP -- which was meant to be a chance to release some of the most excellent songs from the album early.

Since the album should be done relatively quickly, it seems better to wait and release those songs for the first time on Fustercluck!!! instead.

Makes sense, right?

Late/early news - November 4, 2008

Man, I am not good at updating this news page.

For some reason, when I have news, my first instinct is to post about it on Elastic No-No Band's Myspace blog. You can go there now to catch up on all the things I keep forgetting to tell you here.

For instance, I should have told you ages ago that the EP, The Meow Bits is now available for download from iTunes, and Amazon.com, and (most inexpensively) from CD Baby.

Also, while our producer Major Matt Mason USA has been on a European tour, I've been creating home-recordings of Elvis Costello songs for another download-only EP, tentatively titled Every Elvis Has His Impersonators. It was also feature 2 existing EC covers that are currently on this site, which I will remove once the EP is available, so get your free illicit downloads now while they're still here!

The tracklist for Impersonators will be:

1. Pump It Up
2. You Belong To Me
3. Monkey To Man
4. Battered Old Bird
5. Toledo
6. High Fidelity
7. I Want You

Not really his all-time most popular tunes, granted, but the early reaction about the EP, from folks I trust, has been pretty enthusiastic. I might even put one or two of these tunes on our next album, Fustercluck!!!. I expect this EP will be ready for download by the end of the month, or early in December.

And the 3rd pre-Fustercluck!!! EP, the newly-retitled Manboobs EP (which will feature the full band and not just yours truly), should hopefully be ready for you to download in February.

This is all for now.

Coming soon: "The Meow Bits" - August 31, 2008

Sometime in September, I am going to unveil a new mostly solo EP called The Meow Bits. It's going to be download-only because of royalties issues, since -- goodness! -- this is going to be the first Elastic No-No Band release with legit covers on it.

Toby Goodshank performs the Beach Boys' "I'd Love Just Once To See You" with me, and for some reason (I'm not quite sure why myself) I do a solo acoustic version of The Beatles' "I Want To Hold Your Hand."

There's also 3 originals.

Some, but probably not all, of these tunes will wind up on our eventual next album, the perpetually forthcoming Fustercluck!!!

I'll tell you more later, and keep an eye out for the full-band EP "The Shame About Manboobs" and other songs about how you look and how you feel hopefully available for you before the end of the year.

Music documentary directed by ENB's Justin will screen in NY Aug. 15 - July 27, 2008

Work continues on new ENB recorded material, and as it does, I am putting finishing touches on the DVD for a documentary I made about the recording of my friend Frank Hoier's new album, Lovers & Dollars.

The movie, simply enough, is titled Making Lovers & Dollars. It runs a little under an hour and features 8 full songs from the album. I like to think of it as Dont Look Back meets The Last Waltz, but with people you might not recognize.

Frank is backed on the album by a cavalcade of indie songwriters including The Weber Brothers, Andrew Hoepfner from the band Creaky Boards, Timothy Bracken, and Feral Foster. They all also appear in the film.

The flick will premiere Friday, August 15, at 6:30pm sharp, kicking off the Friday night festivities of the 2008 Summer Antifolk Fest at the Sidewalk Cafe (click on that link for more info and directions).

DVDs unfortunately won't be done in time for the premiere screening, but they should be done in late August or September 2008.

Clips from Making Lovers & Dollars are up, along with some of my older short films, on my new filmmaker Myspace profile: http://www.myspace.com/weemaykmovies

Back to the grindstone.

New EP and album in the works - June 8, 2008

I've been recording new bits and pieces, in fits and starts, since the release of My 3 Addictions last October, with an eye toward eventually putting out a massive new album called Fustercluck!!!. It will be a full-band album, a Justin solo album, an album of collaborations with friends, a rock album, a stripped-down folk album, a more serious collection of songs, a tossed-off collection of junk; it will be all-new material, it will be a covers album. It will be long, and take a while to finish.

So... I've decided to make a more concerted effort to crank out 6 of the songs intended for Fustercluck!!! this summer, to have a stopgap (probably download-only) EP to put out before the end of the year. The EP's focus will be mostly on full-band songs, with a couple of guest appearances. The EP's tentative title is "The Shame About Manboobs" and other songs about how you look and how we feel.

Justin's solo tour over. Read all about it! - May 25, 2008

I went on a 24-city, 25-show that went from the end of March to the start of May. I wrote a number of interesting, picture- and video- and music-filled blog entries on Elastic No-No Band's Myspace blog.

If you didn't read it while I was on the road, please enjoy.

Elastic No-No Band on the radio - March 1, 2008

This past Valentine's Day, Elastic No-No Band played a very delightful show on WMBR Cambridge 88.1 FM. And we did it without even taking a trip to the Boston area.

How? you might ask. Well, we were featured on the show Phoning It In, where performers play into a phone and it gets broadcast live on the radio.

And in this TiVo age, you can expect there to be an archive of it, which you can find at this link right here.

The Phoning It In archive features the dozens of previous shows from both the Cambridge, MA, and Providence, RI, editions of the radio show. There's a lot of great gems in the archive; you should check it out.

New music video - February 4, 2008

So I got a new computer with a built-in webcam, so I knew this was too good of a chance not to immediately make a cheapo music video. So within minutes of setting the computer up, I shot a video for "Run-DMC".

It looks essentially like I made a fan video for my own work. You can now enjoy it on our Video Clips page.
